Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet Essay Example for Free
Inn on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet Essay (1)The first thing I would do on the off chance that I discovered I would have been emptied from my house is begin crying. Realizing that I will be isolated from humankind I will likewise start to get insane, recognizing what happens too every one of these individuals at the camps families enduring and loosing each other by being isolated and executed will annihilate me. The most recent hours I have at home I will pack not many of my garments, toothbrush, cash, weapons and a diary not a journal on the grounds that IM A MAN! For what reason would I pick to bring a diary as opposed to everything else I may presents you may be believing is on the grounds that since I am a man I presumably will remain alive and get the opportunity to expound on my day by day battles I will have in the internment camp. I would be driven out behind my telephone, my PC, and for the most part the entirety of my hardware since I wouldnââ¬â¢t need to chance being followed. My rundown uncovers that Iââ¬â¢m going to be feeble without every one of my things that I live on day by day this departure will change as long as I can remember and family. I really donââ¬â¢t accept the Japanese Internment analyzes to the Holocaust, despite the fact that everybody has their option to their own feelings I donââ¬â¢t accept they look at. Since such a significant number of more Jews were murdered during the Holocaust then Japanese being executed in the camps and no offense yet the treatment the Jews were given from the Germans were route harsher than the U.S to the Japs. The Japanese had less camps and were given better treatment like food they were sent to these camps so the U.S. could see them and ensure that they werenââ¬â¢t spies. The Jew were sent to the camps and immediately set to work offered numbers to speak to when they were close to be executed. à Both sides of the internment were one U.S. getting included was a smart thought or a terrible one. The United States placing generally Japanese into internment camps can be viewed as an impractical notion since American is known for the Land of the Free. The U.S. placing most Japanese individuals into camps is definetley illegal it makes individuals question is America actually the Land of the Free? Clearly we know as we read America was simply attempting to be sheltered as of now, in light of the fact that in 1942 Roosevelt signs a Relocation in the United States since they accepted that the Japanese were a danger to America. We were battling against them right now and they just didnââ¬â¢t need dangers since they believed that despite the fact that they came to America they despite everything are goingâ to offer data to Japan. Thatââ¬â¢s why in the book we saw Keikos previous instructor be removed by the ââ¬Å"FBIâ⬠in light of the fact that they accepted he was a go vernment agent. They despite everything got a training, made a low compensation and were given food in these camps it wasnââ¬â¢t like they were being slaves. I trust it was a smart thought for America to get included I figure they did it astutely too they gave the Japanese camps where they would remain at and have their life I know youââ¬â¢re going to compose however itââ¬â¢s not a similar they are being compelled to move yet right now they were being blamed for being spies and doing awful things. A few people additionally simply moved to America and where placed into a camp where they can get a spot to live, cash and food as opposed to living in the city. Itââ¬â¢s additionally just Japanese individuals so youââ¬â¢re with your sort. I surmise Iââ¬â¢m utilizing a Jewish perspective on the grounds that in our religion we should just wed Jewish individuals so I consider this to be something worth being thankful for being all together, yet in addition we gain from before.

T cellB cell collaboration in the immune response to infection Essay
T cellB cell coordinated effort in the insusceptible reaction to disease - Essay Example It is alluded to as vague since it for the most part endeavors to stop the spread of a wide range of intruders. (Kuby, 1996) The last kind comprises of two classifications: cell-interceded insusceptibility and counter acting agent intervened (humoral) resistance. It is the more grounded one of the two sorts yet takes a few hours or even days to turn out to be completely enacted. It is alluded to as explicit on the grounds that it reacts contrastingly to each other outside pathogen. (Hariharan, 2006) Lymphocytes, a class of White Blood Cells, are an essential piece of the procured invulnerable framework, being answerable for the entire response. They are created in the essential lymphoid organs and afterward move to the auxiliary lymphoid organs where they perceive antigens of outside bodies by the assistance of film receptors explicit to the antigens. Two significant classes of lymphocytes partake in the procured insusceptibility: B-Cells (B lymphocytes) and T-Cells (T lymphocytes). (Alberts, Bray, Lewis, Raff, Roberts, Watson, 1994), (Linnemeyer, 1993) Antecedents of T-cells start in the fetal liver and yolk sac during the early stage life, and move deep down marrow after birth. The immature microorganisms at that point enter the thymus by chemo taxis and form into T-cells which are later particular into CD4+ (aide) cells or CD8+ (cytotoxic) cells. (UNC-SOM, 2004) Development On entering the thymus, T-cell forerunners (prothymocytes) form into T-cells that show both CD4 and CD8 atoms on their films and afterward keep on demonstrating either CD4 or CD8 particles. The cells having antigen receptors for self proteins are obliterated by aptosis (customized cell demise). This forestalls autoimmunity. Then again, the cells having antigen receptors that don't respond with self MHC proteins are likewise slaughtered as this causes the unequivocal determination of T-cells that do respond with MHC proteins. (Stadnyk, 2007) Elements of the MHC proteins incorporate positive choice of T-cells just as introduction of remote body antigens to them. (NIAID, 2003) General Function The Helper T-cells actuate lymphocytes called macrophages and other T-cells engaged with the safe reaction, and help B-cells in delivering antibodies by cautioning them and deciding the kind of immune response to be created. (NIAID, 2003) 2) B-Cells: Starting point Antecedents of B-cells move from the fetal liver deep down marrow where they remain and experience development all through the grown-up life. They don't require thymus for their turn of events. (Levinson, 2004) Development Improvement of B-cells happens in two stages: antigen-autonomous stage and antigen-subordinate stage. In the first stage, foundational microorganisms of the marrow separate into B-ancestry and forebear B-cells. The forebear B-cells multiply into antecedent B-cells which requires the microenvironment provided by the encompassing stroma. Cells of the stroma discharge various cytokines, above all IL-7, which help in the development procedure. Further

1 of the 101
1 of the 101 In my last entry, I mentioned that I had a bunch of things I wanted to do before I graduate and one was to get through this list. Last weekend, I made a little more headway on this goal by tackling Item #51: Eat at Mikes Pastry. Mikes Pastry is one of many bakeries and cafes in Bostons North End and is well-known for its delicious cannolis. Over the course of my time at MIT, Ive had many treats from Mikes Pastry but, as I realized last week, Ive never actually been there. This is what motivated me to venture out to North End two Fridays ago and for the first time, visit Mikes Pastry. (I *actually* wanted to go to the North End mainly to eat at Giacomos Ristorante, which has ridiculously awesome Yelp reviews Mikes Pastry was kind of a kill two birds with one stone dealio). As expected, the cannoli (chocolate chip flavor!) was amazing :) Anddd, Im probably going to go back this weekend (and maybe actually get into Giacomos this time). One of my favorite aspects of the North End is its proximity to other fun/eventful locations like Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. The area is filled with little stores, street artists, places to eat, historical tidbits, and more. Faneuil Hall has special significance to me, because thats actually where I became a U.S. citizen :) In other news: (1) I had my first test of the semester this morning in 7.06 (Cell Biology). Meh. Not really that sure how it went. (2) On a happier note, I had brunch recently with some of my favorite Camp Kesem peeps: andddd Thats about it for now more updates after this weekend!

The purpose of this writing is to establish and identify the ââ¬Ëconsââ¬â¢ or failures of the Reagan administration, and provide a brief description of each different aspect of the administration. A good place to begin would be in regards to Reaganââ¬â¢s administration and his communication with said administrators or better the lack thereof. President Reaganââ¬â¢s style of administration was regarded as a ââ¬Ëhands offââ¬â¢ approach in which left him out of a lot the specifics in decision making other than just making the decision of yes or no to a certain degree. Coming to America Free Essays
Coming to America Narrative Essay College Writing I My name is Angela S. Baez, and you can call me Angela. I am from the Dominican Republic. We will write a custom essay sample on Coming to America or any similar topic only for you Order Now In this essay I would like to tell you a story about my experience in coming to the USA. I was very happy when I found out my daughter and I received full residency status from the USA. We would be moving to New York City Sometimes, I felt nervous, because it was my first time to go to another country, which used a different language than my country. I also had to leave my family for a long time. However, I tried to keep strong and calm. I knew it was a good choice to move to the U. S. We departed from my hometown (Montecristi) to Santo Domingo on April 12, 1993 at 7:00 a. m. I went by and got there four hours later. In the airport, we went to the American Airlines counter and checked in for my daughter and me. We went through security. It was really empty because it was very early. After that we went to our gate. We walked around the airport and took a seat to wait for a while. I took my daughter to a cafeteria to eat some food and a soda. We were very early so we had time to walk. Two hours later, we went back to the gate to board the plane. I am sure that my daughter had no idea what was going on, and luckily she was a very quiet child, so I was not nervous. On the plane, I found our seats and sat down and buckled our seat belts. I had never been on a plane before. When I realized that in a few moment we were going to be on the air, I was nervous. But I had to look calm, for my daughter, and for everyone else. The pilot introduced himself and said that the flight from Santo Domingo to New York was going to take 4 hours. The flight attendants stood at the front of the isles and demonstrated the safety precautions as the plane began to get speed. I began to pray, because thatââ¬â¢s what I do when I get nervous. When the plane took off, I was relieved, that nothing bad happened. Soon after that my daughter fell asleep. She was tired and cranky from being awake since so early in the morning. I could not fall asleep because I was still very nervous. Those had been the longest 4 hours of my life. When the plane finally landed in New York, I remember everyone cheering and clapping. We had made it to America. I looked through the window and saw a place completely different than what I had ever known. I immediately started to feel the chilly weather of New York. I had never experienced cold temperature, but I came prepared with a light jacket and sweater for my daughter and me. When we got off of the plane, it was a brand new experience for me. I was now in a country that I had never been to before, and where I did not know the language spoken. I was nervous that I would not be able to communicate with anyone. After going through customs, I found my husband. He hugged us cheerfully because he had not seen us in two years, since our daughter was born. He had moved to the United States in the 80ââ¬â¢s in search for a better future, for better opportunities for his family. After he hugged us, he took us outside the airport to the car. It was really cold. The airport was about half an hour away from what was going to be our new home in the Bronx. I looked at the city through the window and did not like what I saw. The city. It looked brown and ugly, and the trees had no leaves yet. That April was especially cold for me. Moving to the United States was a difficult experience for me. At first I felt like I had no family. I only had my daughter and my husband. But things have changed for the better, and if I were not living here, I would not think that my family has a bright future waiting for it. Consumers have to deal with distributors for contacts, but with BL for other items confusion for consumers BL has more cash and fewer assets in inventory better for BL Gives them financing (steady cash flow on promissory notes and profits) for other goods Allows them to engage in other goods Advantages: Marketing resources immediately freed up to focus on the disposable contact lens market Lower SGA expenses with new distribution plan Less inventory held by BL for conventional lens, more in receivables Possibly lower distribution cost due to shipment consolidation (only shipped to distributor (32 of them) instead of shipping to final customer location) Disadvantages: Damage relationship with distributors by forcing them to buy the product at high volumes Additional expenses of new product (unknown) 1. What is the impact of the December 1993 shipments of conventional lenses on the 1993 financial statements? Is it significant? There was a $22 million inventory sold to distributors which provided BL with positive net sales. Acting as a financial project adviser to Kuang, my responsibility is evaluating the different sources of finance and providing information on the implication of finance as a resource in the business. Indentify the sources of finance available to business All businesses need money to start up and pay bills. Kuang needs more financial sources to support his companyââ¬â¢s establishment in Vietnam. Depending on the size and development stage of business, the selection of appropriate sources of finance is important to success. Start up stage In the initial stage, Kuang and Mottram can make use of some kind of financial sources below: Partnership, Co-founder (between Kuang and his friend ââ¬â Paul Mottram, Executive Vice President of Bite Asia Pacific This is the most feasible solution for Kuang and his friend where they can be together to raise money from each personââ¬â¢s saving. Government loan ââ¬Å"is a sum of money given to an individual or business for a specific project or purpose. A grant usually covers part of the total costs involved. However, as long as the individual or organization keep to any conditions attached to the grant, it will now have to be repaidâ⬠. The advantage of this source of finance is firms may not need to be repaid though spending closely checked. However, in Vietnam, it is very difficult and requires company to persuade the government. Issue shares: Kuang and Mottram can raise more money by issuing shares to shareholders (friends, families, etc). Issue shares can raise a large amount of money and it is never repaid, but it is for listed companies and only shareholders are paid dividends. Expansion stage Bank loan is a debt, often with interest for a set period within an agreed repayment schedule. Often, bank offers this loan service is essential because almost businesses donââ¬â¢t have available financial resources they need to create a purchase. Kuang borrows ? 9,000 from the bank and he has to pay ? 375 interest per month. Retain earnings: This financial source is only carried out in the second year, when Kuangââ¬â¢s company has profitability. With the retain earnings, Kuang make decisions but it reduces dividend payments and companies must achieve a sound balance between dividends and retained earnings. Issue bonds: Kuang business can issue bond to borrow money from the investors. It means that the company has to pay the interest rate periodically on the bond at the purchase value until itââ¬â¢s mature. This solution is good for Kuang, because the company only pay the interest for investor without concerning companyââ¬â¢s profit. Assess the implications of different financial sources When Kuang applies different sources of finance for different stages, each financial resource will have different impacts. Letââ¬â¢s assess and evaluate them. Partnership with Mottram in Vietnam (two or more to cover Myanmar and Cambodia) This is the good way for both Kuang and Mottram. There is no risk to raise capital because theyââ¬â¢ve already known each other and that is their moneyââ¬â¢s saving. For example, at begin of this year; Kuang had purchased new machinery by using his own money ? 11,000 and a loan of ? 9,000. However, the rate of contribution of each person determines the right of control of that one. There will be no dilution of control in business from the external. According Vietnamese business law, both Mottram and Kuang will be the owner of company, but they must choose one of them to be the manager. If the company gets loss or goes to bankruptcy, Kuang and Mottram must be liable for debts or loss of business. Government loan in Vietnam Each year, the Government of Vietnam issues a packet of loan for investment that offers very low interest with long-term repayment. Kuang and Mottram can take the advantage of this by applying the requirement form to Department of Planning and Investment of Hochiminh city or Hanoi. This loan is low risk but the government will consider where their money goes. However, the process of conducting the procedure is very complicate and contains some ââ¬Å"blackâ⬠fees in Vietnam. Issuing shares ââ¬â Being the Public Limited Company At the present, Kuang and Mottram are partnership business. Transfer into Public Limited Company is a big problem for Kuang and Mottram. Firstly, they will be diluted of management or control because of the domination in share of other shareholders. Additionally, the companyââ¬â¢s financial statement must be publicized and quoted on stock exchange. Company must follow the rule and also pays dividend for shareholder. However, the company can gain capital largely for business expansion. Bank loan Bank loan is a popular way of raising fund by borrowing in Vietnam. At present, Kuang and Mottram must think carefully because of the economic depression in Vietnam. Those banks tightening the lending policy and increasing the interest per annum. Kuang Company must ensure that the company makes profit and pay interest every month and also principle at the end of payment. Example: Kuang and Mottram can go to VIB Bank to ask for borrowing. From 20th Nov 2012, VIB bank will offer 9. 9% per annum for first three- months borrowing for enterprises in Vietnam. Kuang and Mottram must consider the ability of paying interest and principle to avoid the default risk and bankruptcy. Some loans carry a prepayment penalty, preventing the borrower from paying the note off early without incurring extra cost. * You will pay more if the interest rates rise. | Retained earnings| * Not have to ask for anybody for loans when need money. * No dilution of control. * It is not tax deductible * Reduces dividend payments if the manager uses the retained earnings for investments. | After identify the advantages and disadvantages based on the type of business of Kuang and Mottram at the present, I recommend two ways of raising capital for Kuang and Mottram. à Retained earnings are not applied at Kuangââ¬â¢s company, so I recommend this for the company. To take the advantage of corporation business model, Kuang should continue to retain the equity earnings. The company will not concern about the interest associated with the capital and the amount needs not to be repaid. This solution has a less risk than others and easily to raise funds. Bank loan: Bank loan is popular. Most of companyââ¬â¢s asset is dominated by liabilities which could be come from borrowing from bank. Kuang should consider whether the company offer short-term borrowing or long- term borrowing for its investment in nation and international market. A lot of trusted bank in Vietnam that company should consider are: Vietcombank, BIDV bank, SHB bank, ACB bank, HD bank, VIB bank, Sacombank. Shift to PLC or corporation is also a way for Kuang to raise the capital for further expansion. Because of limited liability, ease of transfer of shares and continuity, investors are more attracted to investing in corporations rather than in partnerships of Kuang and Mottram. This attraction allows corporations to raise the capital needed to manage and expand their operations. * Raising funds by issuing share * The shareholders will suffer both loss and profit of company Assess and compare the costs of different sources of finance There are many sources of finance that Kuang and his friend, Mottram can choose; however, each source has the advantages and disadvantages that the company must analyze carefully to choose the most suitable. Sources of Finance| Cheap| Normal| Expensive| Government Loan| * Some certain administrative fees * Support by the government by tax deductible * Big amount with no interest| | | Issue share| | | * Company spend a lot of fee for administrative * The cost should allocated appropriately between equity and the profit and loss account| Bank Loan| | * Bank loans often are available, easy procedures. * Competition among banks to reduce administration costs and time. Companies can get more profit if business is maintained. | | Issue Bonds| | * Pay a huge fix interest for bondholder. However, it is tax deductible on interest, which reduces the cost of debt capital * Office fee, and administrative fee for issue bond| | Retained earnings| | Opportunities costs will be lost if we use retained earnings to pay dividends instead of investment| | Explain the importance of finance planning Financial planning is an essential process which decides the success or failure of business. It is a tool helps the company determine the current financial situation; adjust the spending pattern in order to meet the corporate goals. When started business, should be done on the basis of calculated risks in business. A good business plan will have no meaning if it does not come with a good financial plan. A good financial plan will help Kuang see clearly the opportunities and risks when the investment, this directly affects the survival of the company. A financial plan is a plan to mobilize adequate, timely and effective capital in line with business processes. A financial plan should be controlled cash inflow and cash outflow. If Kuang does not financial planning will not initiative financial sources.

Asians And Census 2000 Essays - Organization Of Chinese Americans
Asians And Census 2000 Essays - Organization Of Chinese Americans Asians And Census 2000 There are numerous reasons why full participation is in the Census 2000 is important to the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. The estimated undercount of the Asian Pacific Islander community in 1990 was 2.3%. Because census data is the basis for almost all demographic information used by policy makers, educators, and community leaders, undercounted communities miss out on their fair share of federal funding for services, adequate governmental representation, and enforcement of civil rights laws that prevent discrimination. An undercount prevents government and other agencies from planning for and implementing culturally and linguistically appropriate services for the Asian Pacific Islander community. (U.S. Census Bureau) Unfortunately, the Asian Pacific Islander community is at risk for a high undercount in the upcoming census. Undercounts tend to be high in communities in which there are language barriers, resistance to outsiders, suspicion of government, disbelief of census confidentiality, non-traditional household living arrangements, irregular housing, large numbers of children, large proportions of renters, and among people or families who are highly mobile. (U.S. Census Bureau) One important reason for full participation by Asian American and Pacific Islander communities is the need for adequate governmental representation. Reapportionment occurs after every census, which is when political districts are reconfigured to reflect changes in the population. When Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are not counted, they are not assigned the correct number of representatives. It is important that they have a voice in the government. There is a need for political empowerment among the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, and that can happen only when there is accurate representation, which is the result of an accurate census count. Another important reason for the full participation of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities is the need for community funding. Hundreds of billions of dollars in federal, state, and county funding are allocated each year on the basis of census information. This money is used to support schools, employment services, housing assistance, hospital services, programs for the elderly and disabled, child care, substance abuse prevention, battered womans shelters, and transportation. If there is not an accurate count, the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities will lose out on millions of dollars for community funding. Census information is also used to identify areas that require assistance in languages other than English. For example, it is used to determine whether bilingual material is needed during elections. It also helps government agencies serve the needs of limited English proficient people in education, health care, police and emergency services. This is very important for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders that speak a language other than English, especially in terms of bilingual voting documents, which allow them to participate in the political process. Fortunately, many efforts are being made to ensure that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are not undercounted in the next census. An Asian Pacific Islander Census 2000 Task Force was formed to organize community education around Census 2000. Community education materials are being translated into the numerous Asian Pacific Islander languages. Bilingual enumerators are being recruited to reach out to non-responding households. These proactive measures will help ensure a more accurate count for Census 2000, which will greatly benefit the Asian American and Asian Pacific Islander communities.

Sociology - Essay Example However, this can also be seen in the use of economic sanctions before the Iraq war, as Joy Gordon described in ââ¬Å"Cool war: Economic sanctions as a weapon of mass destructionâ⬠(Gordon, 2002) While it is easy to see the destructive power of war as it impacts a country like Iraq economically through the destruction of resources, it should be noted that even the victorious power in a war may suffer economic consequences, such as the U.S. following WWII or Iraq. This is because of the great social cost of war production and mobilization; funds that could have been put to productive use in society instead were wasted and destroyed through bombs and war. The New York Times in 2009 described the total cost of the Iraq War at $860 billion USD, and though this may have helped military contractors it may have also reduced the ability of the country to grow economically through the effects of the redistribution and large-scale waste of resources. (Glanz, 2009) War itself may cause mi llions of deaths in a society. People who were once producers culturally may see economic destruction that takes years to rebuild. Examples in Asia show how landmines such as were used in Laos and Cambodia can disfigure populations for years, creating disabilities. Similarly, populations suffering wars in Africa have suffered mass-disfigurement through machete attacks and other weapons that leave people scared and disfigured, both physically and psychologically. These psychological forces can further reduce economic development following a war out of feelings of grief, depression, or loss that are felt in the victims. Question 2: what is the economic role of transnational corporations in integrating global economy? Multinational corporations currently play a role in developing economies and labour forces in the global economy, and their trading patterns furthers social integration internationally through the exchange of products and ideas. Dicken (1992) writes in ââ¬Å"Global Shift ,â⬠ââ¬Å"The dominance of the industrialised countriesââ¬â¢ markets is not as overwhelming as commonly perceived and the market potential of the developing and transition countries is becoming more impressive. The IMF defines as transition economy as an economy transitioning from a centrally planned economic system towards a free market system.â⬠(Dicken, 2003) Dicken defines the modern economy as being related to over $54 trillion USD in economic activity. He notes that since the industrial revolution, the MNC or Multi-National Company has risen to represent the driving force of economic expansion internationally. These companies have the capital resources to build new factories, offices, and large production facilities that oftentimes developing nations or the small business owners in a society cannot manage. One reason for this is the ease through which MNCs can receive large financing through banks and corporate bonds. The other reason is more fundamental, in that rational management standards lead to an efficiency of operations, a specialization of labour, and the pursuit of profit in ever more scientific ways. MNCs drive technological expansion and innovation both through research and development in new products and also the introduction of these products into new markets. They can also promote jobs internationally by exploiting lower cost labour in

Internet and Mobile Phones - Essay Example A research conducted by Pew Internet anticipated that the vast majority on the planet will access the Internet through cell phones by 2020. New interpersonal interaction administrations for cellular telephones have been produced which will likely allow individuals to make, create, and reinforce social ties. Much like social networks on the Internet, cell phones give clients an alternate stage to interact with a number of people. Interpersonal interaction services for cell phones regularly depend on clients imparting their area and other individual data with companions and different clients using these services. Hence inquiries emerge regarding the manner in which these mobile users manage expectations, standards, and understand issues of privacy and surveillance when diffusing personal information on the Internet (Anderson, &Rainie, 2008). This is a survey on peopleââ¬â¢s perception of privacy and private information in the use of new technology. Privacy and Surveillance Focusing on the nature of online interpersonal interaction and related Web 2.0 administrations and applications, a customary and rather contrary origination of surveillance appear. Reconnaissance is connected with privacy intrusion, snooping, or spying and it is a pervasive view that everything identified with it ought to be avoided. This is in accordance with well-known frameworks, for example, Panopticon and Big Brother. The increased advancement in data engineering recognizes numerous issues with respect to security and surveillance.

A Visit To A Jewish Synagogue
A Visit To A Jewish Synagogue Judaism is the oldest and one of the most practiced religions in the world. It was originated when God called Abraham and ordered him to take his people to Canaan, the Promised Land. There, it was signed like an agreement between God and the Jews because they were the chosen people to extend the law of God. It is considered Abraham the father of the Jews and Christians, because he descended from the Jewish people. Another important descendant in the origin of the religion was Moses, who were handed the tables of the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai. The source of the Jewish doctrine is divine in revelation contained in the Torah. It is also a guide of living. Judaism also has very complex purity laws of food. It is allow to eat all plant products, terrestrial animals if they are all ruminants with cloven-hoofed with the exception of the pork, the hare, the camel, etc. Birds are also allowed, all are permitted except the birds of prey. Also sea animals are allowed but only those fish that have scales and fins. In addition the animals must be slaughtered by an expert killer. He must followed all the rabbinical laws for killing, which require, among other things, the disgorging, for which the animal loses all his blood, food prohibit for the Jewish, and the detailed inspection of certain viscera to verify that the animal has no default to be prohibited. After that he must eliminate certain nerves and the fat. Finally, before cooking the meat it has to be treated with water and salt to miss the last traces of blood. In addition it i s important to separate at the time of cooking and eating, meat products and dairy products, also maintaining separate cooking tools for each group. The rabbi is an expert of the study of Torah, which also has obtained the certification to exercise it. His mission is to ensure that believer follows correctly the cult, ensure the implementation of the procedures and teaching, interpreting, implementing and always studying the Torah. He can occupy the position of spiritual leader of a synagogue, a community or a set of them. But regardless of the position, his authority will be determined not for reasons of hierarchy, on the contrary by the prestige given by his knowledge and recognition of it in Jewish society. The usual place of worship on the Jewish religion is the synagogue. Together with the Temple is the most important institution of Judaism. After the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem the synagogue became the center and central point of the religious Jewish life. It inherited many of the customs and rituals of the Temple but there were some of them that were prohibited because they were exclusive of the Temple, for example the prayer became the substitute for the sacrifices. Since many years ago to the functions of the synagogue as a center for prayer, study and teaching it also became as the center of community and place of meeting for treating all kinds of issues related to the community life. Also, in the synagogue or in its buildings there was everything necessary for the Jewish life, for example the headquarters of rabbinical court, the ritual bath, hospice for hosting travelers, among others. The religious service, established in the Talmud, has remained without basic changes along their 2,500 years of history, and only with time has suffered some extensions that vary between communities to others. In the synagogue it is held three times a day, at sunset, at sunrise and at noon, the prayers community in the presence of a minimum of ten (10) men older than thirteen (13) years. Besides the followers there is present the rabbi, where he reads aloud the texts of prayer. The worship prayers to God are all in Hebrew with some fragments are in Aramaic. They consist in passages of Psalms and other books of the Bible. In the service of Monday, Thursday, Saturdays and holidays it is read the Torah. In each week they read a section so the cycle of reading will be completed in the course of the year. The reading is follows by a passage of the biblical books of Prophets where they are related with the section of the Torah. During the prayer men must cover their head with any hat or skullcap. Also they cover themselves with a kind mantle of rectangular shape usually made of wool, white and blue stripes or black. Within the festive calendar the most important institution of Judaism is the sabat (Saturday), which reminds each week the divine resting in the seventh day. The celebration homeschooling starts before sunset on friday, lighting the housewife in the second house candelas sabbaticals on which should read the corresponding blessing. The meals, such as the remaining festivities, starting with a prayer of sanctification (quidà ºs) on a cup full of wine and another blessing on two loaves of bread. The evening of Saturday, another sentence parallel mark the separation (habdalà ¡) between the holy day just and profane that begins; it aspires the smell of spices stored in a bowl, lights a candle and drink a glass of wine, all accompanied by the blessings. Another of its festivals most famous in the Yom Kippur or Day of Atonement, which culminates the ten days of penitence of New Year (September). It is a day of reflection and repentance in which it must save fasting. The Yom Kippur (Day of forgiveness or of atonement) is the most solemn of the Jewish calendar and with it culminates the ten days of penitence initiated with the new Year. It is a day of fasting, devoted to repentance and to ask forgiveness of sins committed against God, against himself and against the neighbor; for forgiveness for the latter there to repair the damage caused, but without the repair and repentance are sufficient when the neighbor is a non-Jewish. The religious services in the synagogue last throughout the day; it starts with the sentence Kal nidrà ©, in which it seeks the annulment of the votes are not met, and closes with a touch of sofar. Of the ceremonies mandatory of the life cycle, the first is the circumcision (berit milà ¡) of the man jewish eighth day of his birth and provided that the health of the newborn permits, in a sign of the alliance (berit) of the people with God, as ordered Abraham in Gen 17.11-12. Funding for Emergency Operations
Funding for Emergency Operations Jenalyn L. Brock EMC/330 March 19, 2013 Robert E. Wynne Funding for Emergency Operations Government funding for emergency medical services (EMS) operations and training comes from many different resources. Government also oversees contract options for funding Medicaid, Medicare, insurance, and private providers. The Taylor Ambulance Company in the University of Phoenix scenario has its own contract with the City of Kelsey. This contract should meet some meet some general contract principles. Emergency managers need to understand the effect that legislation has on funding and operations.Government Options for Funding EMS operations and training receive funding from the public and fee-for-service reimbursement (Brennan, 2006, p. 93). How an EMS organization is configured determines how the EMS services are funded. Traditionally, private EMS providers rely on fee-for-service funding, while public service providers rely on public funding. According to Bre nnan (2006), both providers are billing for services and private EMS companies are more and more dependent on public funding. In 1966, the National Highway Safety Act created a grant program that provided funding for equipment and personnel. In order to receive money for grants, EMS organizations have to write grant proposals to the government. In the grant proposals, managers have to explain exactly how the funds will be used, who will benefit from the funds, and prove that they will not abuse the funds (FEMA, 2012). Local organizations also see revenue from funding alternatives such as taxes, user fees, fines, forfeitures, citations, enterprise funds, utility rates, sales of organizational assets, benefit assessments, and borrowing revenue (FEMA, 2012). These funding alternatives are acquired through government processes. In 1973, Congress passed the Emergency Medical Systems Act that provided further guidance and funding for EMS systems (Brennan, 2006, p. 94). Private EMS organizat ions like American Medical Response and Rural/Metro Corporation are mostly supported by user fees, unless they are patients covered by Medicare or Medicaid. Each of these government funding choices has its own implications and comes with restraints, as in restricting the way the money is used. Contract Options for Funding EMS organizations also have their contract options for funding.According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (2013), they developed a fee schedule for ambulance services, in order to contain costs. This schedule is written into a contract. Many patients that are transported by ambulance are Medicare beneficiaries. The government will only reimburse the companies for services rendered during transport, unless contraindicated by the patientââ¬â¢s medical condition. There are codes associated with treatment that either replace or supplement ICD-9 codes. The fee schedule also corresponds with BLS and ALS levels of care, rating treatment from routine to complex (Brennan, 2012).Private insurance companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield include ambulance services for their patients when other transportation would otherwise harm the patient. Cities and hospitals create contract agreements with private ambulance companies for services. Taylor Ambulance Company Service Contracts Generally in contract writing, there are six basic contract elements (The Law Handbook, 2010). The first is that both parties must have the capacity to enter a contract. There must be an offer and then acceptance. There needs to be intention to create legal relations. Considerations are made regarding as far as the value of what is being exchanged. There is also consideration for what will happen if the other party fails to follow through with their portion of the contract. The considerations must not be illegal in nature, or the contract is not valid. The Taylor Ambulance Company has a General Services Agreement with the City of Kelsey. The two parties are capable of entering the contract. The contract clearly states that both parties agree that Taylor Ambulance Services will provide emergency transport for the city, through 911-dispatch. The contract also clearly states that Taylor Ambulance Company will provide appropriately trained personnel and its own equipment. The contract also delineates how many ambulances will be running, staffed, and stocked during the contract. It also identifies Taylor Ambulance Company as the primary provider of emergency transport services for the City of Kelsey. The ambulances must be in good working order and staff must be trained according to all applicable laws. The contract states exactly how much Taylor Ambulance Company will be paid for each patient that it transports. The total of $829. 40 will be the price. For the rest of the costs associated with the transport, like medical supplies, blankets, and other equipment, must be provided by Taylor Ambulance Company. At the end of each month, Taylor Ambulance Company must total the ambulance transports. The City of Kelsey will send them an accounting report and Taylor Ambulance Company must approve the statement. If both parties still disagree, they will seek further counsel. These elements of the contract cover the consideration elements of a contract. The contract has an exact start and stop time, and is signed by the Mayor of the City of Kelsey and the Owner of Taylor Ambulance Company. Effect of Legislation on Funding and Operations Federal and local legislation can have significant effects on funding and operations.Depending on the type of organization, it could be dependent on Federal funding. Mercer (2013) reported that the South Dakota state Senate rejected an attempt to change financial agreements between insurance companies and ambulance services. A Senator wanted to allow ambulance services to be paid directly by insurance providers, as opposed to sending checks to patients. There are times when the ambulance companies were n ot receiving payments. The interruption in the payment cycle can have a direct effect on the companyââ¬â¢s funding and operations. On a Federal level, financial stability can have a great overall impact on ambulance companies.Fortunately, in January 2013, President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act. It reauthorized the Fire and SAFER grant programs and called to reform the Public Safety Officers Benefits Program. The act also extends Medicare bonus payments for ambulance services. Ambulance companies will receive an extra two percent for urban transports, three percent for rural transports, and 22. 6% for super-rural transports (Fire Chief, 2013). Conclusion Government funding for EMS operations and training comes from several different resources. Ambulance companies rely on both public and private funding.Government also oversees contract options for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service providers like Medicaid and Medicare. Insurance companies and private providers also adhere to contracts. The Taylor Ambulance Company in the University of Phoenix scenario has its own contract with the City of Kelsey. This contract meets the general contract principles and clearly outlines the terms of the deal between Taylor Ambulance Company and the City of Kelsey. Emergency managers who understand legislation and how it effects funding will be able to anticipate changes and effectively manage their organizations. References Brennan, J.A. (2006). (2006). Scheduling System
Scheduling is the process of deciding how to commit resources between a variety of possible tasks. Time can be specified (scheduling a flight to leave at 8:00) or floating as part of a sequence of events. The word may also refer to: * I/O scheduling, the order in which I/O requests are submitted to a block device in Computer Operating Systems * Scheduling (broadcasting), the minute planning of the content of a radio or television broadcast channel * Scheduling algorithm Scheduling (computing), the way various processes are assigned in multitasking and multiprocessing operating system design * Scheduling (production processes), the planning of the production or the operation * Schedule (workplace), ensuring that an organization has sufficient staffing levels at all times * Job scheduler, an enterprise software application in charge of unattended background executions. * Job Shop Scheduling, an optimization problem in computer science. http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Scheduling chedulin g computing Scheduling is a key concept in computer multitasking, multiprocessing operating system and real-time operating system designs. Scheduling refers to the way processes are assigned to run on the available CPUs, since there are typically many more processes running than there are available CPUs. This assignment is carried out by softwares known as a scheduler and dispatcher. The scheduler is concerned mainly with: * Throughput ââ¬â number of processes that complete their execution per time unit. Latency, specifically: * Turnaround ââ¬â total time between submission of a process and its completion. * Response time ââ¬â amount of time it takes from when a request was submitted until the first response is produced. * Fairness ââ¬â Equal CPU time to each process (or more generally appropriate times according to each process' priority). In practice, these goals often conflict (e. g. throughput versus latency), thus a scheduler will implement a suitable compromise . In real-time environments, such as mobile devices for automatic control in industry (for example robotics), the scheduler also must ensure that processes can meet deadlines; this is crucial for keeping the system stable. Scheduled tasks are sent to mobile devices and managed through an administrative back end. http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Scheduling_%28computing%29 SYSTEM-(from Latin systema, in turn from Greek systema, ââ¬Å"whole compounded of several parts or members, systemâ⬠, literary ââ¬Å"compositionâ⬠[1]) is a set of interacting or interdependent system components forming an integrated whole. The concept of an ââ¬Å"integrated wholeâ⬠can also be stated in terms of a system embodying a set of relationships which are differentiated from relationships of the set to other elements, and from relationships between an element of the set and elements not a part of the relational regime. Schedul ing is where these aspirations meet the reality of the time you have available. Scheduling is the process by which you look at the time available to you, and plan how you will use it to achieve the goals you have identified. By using a schedule properly, you can: * Understand what you can realisticaly achieve with your time. * Plan to make the best use of the time available. * Leave enough time for things you absolutely must do. Preserve contingency time to handle ââ¬Ëthe unexpected'. * Minimize stress by avoiding over-commitment to yourself and others. How to Use the Tool: There are many good scheduling tools available, including diaries, calendars, paper-based organizers, PDAs and integrated software suites like MS Outlook or GoalPro 6. The scheduling tool that is best for you depends on your situation, the current structure of your job, your taste and your budget: The key things are to be able to enter data easily, and to be able to view an appropriate span of time in the corr ect level of detail. Scheduling is best done on a regular basis, for example at the start of every week or month. Go through the following steps in preparing your schedule: 1. Start by identifying the time you want to make available for your work. This will depend on the design of your job and on your personal goals in life. 2. Next, block in the actions you absolutely must take to do a good job. These will often be the things you are assessed against. 3. For example, if you manage people, then you must make time available for dealing with issues that arise, coaching, and supervision. Similarly, you must allow time to communicate with your boss and key people around you. While people may let you get away with ââ¬Ëneglecting them' in the short-term, your best time management efforts will surely be derailed if you do not set aside time for those who are important in your life. 4. Review your To Do List, and schedule in the high-priority urgent activities, as well as the essential maintenance tasks that cannot be delegated and cannot be avoided. 5. Next, block in appropriate contingency time. You will learn how much of this you need by experience. Normally, the more unpredictable your job, the more contingency time you need. The reality of many people's work is of constant interruption: Studies show some managers getting an average of as little as six minutes uninterrupted work done at a time. 6. Obviously, you cannot tell when interruptions will occur. However, by leaving space in your schedule, you give yourself the flexibility to rearrange your schedule to react effectively to issues as they arise. 7. What you now have left is your ââ¬Å"discretionary timeâ⬠: the time available to deliver your priorities and achieve your goals. Review your Prioritized To Do List and personal goals, evaluate the time needed to achieve these actions, and schedule these in. By the time you reach step 5, you may find that you have little or no discretionary time available. If this is the case, then revisit the assumptions you used in the first four steps. Question whether things are absolutely necessary, whether they can be delegated, or whether they can be done in an abbreviated way. Remember that one of the most important ways people learn to achieve success is by maximizing the ââ¬Ëleverage' they can achieve with their time. They increase the amount of work they can manage by delegating work to other people, spend money outsourcing key tasks, or use technology to automate as much of their work as possible. This frees them up to achieve their goals. Also, use this as an opportunity to review your To Do List and Personal Goals. Have you set goals that just aren't achievable with the time you have available? Are you taking on too many additional duties? Or are you treating things as being more important than they really are? If your discretionary time is still limited, then you may need to renegotiate your workload. With a well-thought through schedule as evidence, you may find this surprisingly easy. Key Points: Scheduling is the process by which you plan your use of time. By scheduling effectively, you can both reduce stress and maximize your effectiveness. Before you can schedule efficiently, you need an effective scheduling system. This can be a diary, calendar, paper-based organizer, PDA or a software package like MS Outlook or GoalPro 6. The best solution depends entirely on your circumstances. Scheduling is then a five-step process: 1. Identify the time you have available. . Block in the essential tasks you must carry out to succeed in your job. 3. Schedule in high priority urgent tasks and vital ââ¬Å"house-keepingâ⬠activities. 4. Block in appropriate contingency time to handle unpredictable interruptions. 5. In the time that remains, schedule the activities that address your priorities and personal goals. If you have little or no discretionary time left by the time you reach step five, then revisit the assumptions you have made in steps one to four.
